2 Corinthians 3:11
11: So if the old covenant, which has been set aside, was full of glory, then the new covenant, which remains forever, has far greater glory.
Romans 5:20
- God's law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God's wonderful kindness became more abundant.
- So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God's wonderful kindness rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
2 Corinthians 3:6
- He is the one who has enabled us to represent his new covenant. This is a covenant, not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old way ends in death; in the new way, the Holy Spirit gives life.
- That old system of law etched in stone led to death, yet it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses' face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away.
Hebrews 12:25
- See to it that you obey God, the one who is speaking to you. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, how terrible our danger if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven!
- When God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise: "Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also."
- This means that the things on earth will be shaken, so that only eternal things will be left.
- Since we are receiving a Kingdom that cannot be destroyed, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.
- For our God is a consuming fire.
2 Corinthians 4:1
- And so, since God in his mercy has given us this wonderful ministry, we never give up.
Hebrews 8:13
- When God speaks of a new covenant, it means he has made the first one obsolete. It is now out of date and ready to be put aside.
Hebrews 7:21
- Only to Jesus did he say, "The Lord has taken an oath and will not break his vow: 'You are a priest forever.'"
- Because of God's oath, it is Jesus who guarantees the effectiveness of this better covenant.
- Another difference is that there were many priests under the old system. When one priest died, another had to take his place.
- But Jesus remains a priest forever; his priesthood will never end.
- Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save everyone who comes to God through him. He lives forever to plead with God on their behalf.
